✅ Let's Revive a Sunnah
Miswak is such an important Sunnah that carries immense virtue. Here are a few words about this forgotten Sunnah—
🛑 This Sunnah is given very little importance… yet it is not only related to cleaning the teeth or mouth. Often, we fail to understand its deeper significance.
🛑This is connected to faith. It is the Prophet's last visible deed. It paves the way to Paradise.
It strengthens faith (Iman) and helps in attaining a good ending (a righteous death), InshaAllah. SubhanAllah—it is truly a blessed Sunnah with great virtues.
🛑 Many people say it is only related to cleaning the mouth.
Some also say that since toothpaste and brushes did not exist at that time, people used miswak instead.
That kind of dismissive label (“kopalpora” / unlucky) isn’t a helpful way to talk about people.
Pay attention, at that time there were not many different kinds of foods… most of the time they used to eat dates, and they used to break their fast with dates. Even though now there are so many types of foods available, we still begin our iftar with dates. Even if we have tables and chairs, we sit on the floor to eat in order to follow the Sunnah.
🌺 If we want to walk in the footsteps of the Prophet, if we want to receive the Prophet’s intercession, if we want to enter Jannah, if we want to keep our faith strong and firm, and if we hope for a faithful death, then we must do what our Prophet did.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: If it were not too burdensome for my nation, I would have ordered them to use the siwak before every prayer.
Meaning: “If it were not difficult for my nation, I would have ordered them to use the miswak at every prayer.” 📚 (Sahih al-Bukhari: 887, Sahih Muslim: 252)
2. The virtue of prayer is increased through the use of miswak.
📖 Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Miswak is a cleanser for the mouth and a source of pleasure for the Lord.”
🔹 Meaning: “Miswak purifies the mouth and is a cause for Allah's pleasure.” 📚 (Sahih Bukhari, Nasai: 5, Musnad Ahmad: 3948)
