
The Virtues and Rewards of Fasting (Sawm)
Fasting is an extremely important act of worship in Islam. In the authentic (Sahih) Hadith, great virtues and rewards of fasting have been mentioned.
1. Allah Himself rewards the fast
Narrated in Hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim:
Allah Ta'ala says
"Every deed of mankind is for himself, but fasting is for Me and I Myself will reward it."
Meaning
The reward of fasting is so great that Allah Ta'ala Himself will determine its reward.
2. Fasting is a shield from Hell
It has come in Sahih al-Bukhari:
"Fasting is a shield, which protects mankind from Hell."
Meaning
Meaning Fasting saves mankind from sin and the fire of Hell.
3. Special gate of Paradise for the fasting persons
It is narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim:
There is a gate in Paradise, named Ar-Rayyan
শুধুমাত্র রোজাদাররাই সেই দরজা দিয়ে প্রবেশ করবে।
Meaning
Meaning Special honor and status have been kept in Paradise for the fasting persons.
4. The odor of a fasting person's mouth is beloved to Allah
It has come in Sahih Muslim:
The odor of a fasting person's mouth is more beloved to Allah than the fragrance of musk.
Meaning
The hardship of fasting is counted as an extremely valuable act of worship to Allah.
5. Forgiveness of sins in the fasting of Ramadan
It is narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim:
The person who observes the fast of Ramadan out of faith and hoping for reward, his previous sins are forgiven.
Meaning
Meaning Fasting is a great medium for the forgiveness of sins.
