Why Do We Perform Wudu?
1) Wudu Erases the Sins of a Servant
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said—
When a Muslim performs Wudu and washes their face, the sins of their face are washed away with the water.
When he washes his hands, every sin his hands committed is washed away with the water.
When he washes his feet, every sin his feet walked towards is washed away with the water...
— Sahih Muslim, Hadith 244
Also The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said—
He who performs Wudu perfectly, despite it being difficult or inconvenient, all his sins are forgiven.
— Sahih Muslim, Hadith 251
In other words, Wudu is not just physical cleanliness—it is a means of expiating sins.
2) The Ummah Will Be Identified on the Day of Qiyamah by Their Wudu
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said—
My Ummah will be recognized on the Day of Qiyamah by the traces of Wudu
—their faces, hands, and feet will be radiant and bright due to their Wudu.”
— Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 136
3) Wudu Opens the Doors to Good Deeds
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Purification is half of Imaan (faith).”
— Sahih Muslim, Hadith 223
The greatest aspect of physical and spiritual purification is Wudu. As a result of performing Wudu, a person engages in major acts of Ibadah (worship) such as performing Salah and reciting the Holy Quran. This opens up numerous doors of good deeds for them and strengthens their Imaan.
