Salah (Prayer) is one of the primary acts of worship in Islam and the most crucial means of connection between a servant and Allah. A Muslim performs Salah to fulfill the command of Allah, to attain His pleasure, and to guide their own life onto the right path.
. It is a direct command from Allah. In the Holy Qur'an, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala has commanded mankind to establish Salah (prayer) more than 82 times.
Allah says:
“Establish Salah (prayer).”
— Surah Ta-Ha 20:14
Salah (Prayer) is not an optional act; rather, it is an obligatory (Fard) act of worship.
2. Salah protects a person from sins
In the Holy Qur’an, Allah tells us:
“Indeed, Salah prohibits immorality and wrongdoing.”
— Surah Al-Ankabut 29:45
This means that Salah purifies a person’s character, behavior, and heart.
3. Salah is direct communication with Allah
It is stated in the Hadith:
“Salah is the connection between a servant and their Rabb (Lord).”
Through Salah, the servant stands before Allah, speaks to Him, and supplicates (Dua).
4. Salah is the fundamental pillar of Iman (Faith)
Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
“The core foundation of Islam is Salah.”
Without prayer, the structure of Islam does not remain strong.
5. The first accountability in the Hereafter (Akhirah) will be regarding Salah
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“The first thing the servant will be accountable for on the Day of Judgment is the Salah.”
— Jami at-Tirmidhi
This means that Salah is the foundation of success in the Hereafter.
Whom is Salah for?
1. Solely for Allah
In the Holy Qur’an, Allah tells us:
“And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer”
— Surah Al-Bayyinah 98:5
Salah is not for people, society, or worldly gain.
Salah is purely for the pleasure of Allah.
2. However, all its benefits are for the human being themselves:
• Liberation from sins
• Peace of mind and body
• Assistance during hardships
• Blessings (Barakah) in sustenance (Rizq)
• Purification of the heart
