The Holy Qur’an says: Allah is the One who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and His Throne was over the water, in order to test us to see who among us is best in deeds. (Surah Hud 11:7)

The Qur’an mentions the Throne (Arsh) in 21 verses. Authentic hadiths also mention descriptions of the Throne by the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).

The Throne of Allah (Arsh):

  • The Throne (Arsh) is one of Allah’s creations and is described as عظیم (great) and majestic.
  • The Kursi is described as being vast like a ring compared to the Throne (Arsh). The Throne itself is described in Islamic teachings as immense and above all creation. However, details about its exact shape or form are part of the unseen (ghayb), and Allah has not given full physical descriptions beyond what is mentioned in the Qur’an and authentic Hadith.
  • t is mentioned in Islamic belief that Jannatul Firdaus (the highest level of Paradise) is beneath the Throne of Allah (Arsh).
  • There are angels who carry the Throne (Arsh). On the Day of Judgment, they will be eight in number. (Surah Al-Haqqah 69:17)

Hadith narration:
“It is narrated that Allah wrote the decrees of all creation fifty thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth, and His Throne was over the water.” (Sahih Muslim: 2653)
