Every week Monday ও Thursday These are the days when our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to fast. So we also try to follow this Sunnah.
According to authentic hadith, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to fast these two days, and it was one of his most beloved deeds.
Some important things to remember:
- Sincere intention: When you fast, your intention must be solely for the satisfaction of Allah. Not for weight loss or any other worldly purpose. Say to yourself— “O Allah, I am fasting solely for Your satisfaction.”
- Summer Fasting: During the hot season, with the long days, fasting can be somewhat difficult. But remember, the greater the hardship, the greater the reward.
- Winter Fasting: Since the days are short in winter, fasting is much easier. So take this opportunity to try to fast as much as possible, insha'Allah.
O Allah! Grant my beloved ones and all worshippers the ability to fast regularly, and give us the strength to follow the path shown by our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him). Amen.
1. Hadith about the Monday fast
The Prophet Karim (peace be upon him) used to fast on Mondays—because he was born on that day and on that day the revelation began to descend upon him.
Someone asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about fasting on Monday. He said, «That is the day I was born, the day I was sent, or the day it was revealed to me.»
Meaning: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked about fasting on Mondays, he said: “I was born on this day, and on this day the revelation (the Qur'an) was sent down to me.” — (Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1162)
