Fasting 3 days a month - a Sunnah practice
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever fasts three days each month is as if they have fasted the entire year.” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)
In Islam, fasting on the 13th, 14th, and 15th days of the lunar month is a very beautiful Sunnah. These days are called “Ayyam al-Bīẓ,” meaning the days of the bright nights.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encouraged fasting these three days each month.
He ﷺ said
“Fasting three days a month is equal to fasting the entire year.”
Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith Number 1979
Sahih Muslim Hadith Number 1162
Another hadith states
“If you fast three days a month, then fast on the 13th, 14th, and 15th.”
Sunan al-Tirmidhi hadith number 761
Think about it for a moment.
Just three days of fasting in just 30 days.
Can't you do this?
I believe that with sincere desire, anyone can do it, God willing. You just need to get started.
Especially in winter, when the days are short, fasting becomes much easier. It's only a brief period of hardship, but it brings a great reward from Allah.
Resolve to start today.
I will fast for Allah at least three days every month.
And when your faith, knowledge, and love for the religion increase even more, then you can do both if you wish.
✔ 3 days a month ✔ and 2 days a week
Although these are voluntary acts, their reward with Allah is immense. Check the Arabic calendar and mark in advance which three days you will fast. Allah will reward the fasting person with His own hand. May Allah make it easy for you and keep you steadfast in these beautiful deeds.
