The command of Zakat appears many times in the Holy Qur’an. Two important verses are—
1️⃣ “Establish prayer and give Zakat.”
— — Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:43
2️⃣ “Zakat is only for the poor, the needy, those employed to collect it, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, for freeing slaves, for those in debt, in the way of Allah, and for the traveler.”
— — Surah At-Tawbah, 9:60
This verse clearly specifies the eight categories of people who are eligible to receive Zakat.
